Most adults will experience lower back pain at some point in their life. Although most episodes will resolve in a few weeks with regular exercise and simple analgesia once pain persists it can have a significant impact on work and quality of life.
If the pain is severe or it becomes chronic, it may require additional treatment. Pain also has wide ranging effects on work, social connections and emotions which need to be considered
After diagnosis, treatment may include physiotherapy, acupuncture, advice of lifestyle management, stronger pain killers or injections. Based on the history examination and imaging injections such as facet injections, sacroiliac injections, epidurals or nerve root blocks could be suggested which may help manage pain.
